Prior to joining the University of Oxford in 2003, Professor Wee was Consultant/Senior Lecturer at Countess Mountbatten House, and Deputy Director of Education for the School of Medicine at Southampton University. For the past 20 years, she has provided national strategic leadership for palliative care, first as President of the Association for Palliative Medicine of Great Britain and Ireland, then as National Clinical Director at NHS England (2013-26) and now in the development of aspiring researchers, educators and leaders. She is also Non-Executive Director on the Board of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

She is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Sir Michael Sobell House, part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Her research interests focus on care of dying people, and their caregivers, wherever they are, and working collaboratively across all disciplines.

Professor Wee was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to palliative and end of life care in the New Year 2020 Honours List. This year, she has been given the honour of delivering the Harveian Oration, the prestigious scientific lecture hosted by the Royal College of Physicians annually since it was first established in1656.

She commented: “I am thrilled to be awarded the full Professorship – the first for palliative medicine in Oxford. It is a joy and a privilege to work in a place like Oxford University and Harris Manchester College, where there is abundant opportunity to undertake interdisciplinary research, and to nurture and develop future doctors and clinical academics.”
